How To Build A Grow Box
Do you know that you can build your own grow box without going out of your way to purchase the materials. You might already have these in your own home. You shouldn’t be surprised as almost anything in the household has a potential for many other uses and could be transformed to a hospitable host to plants of your choice. Just where do you start looking? You can look in your kitchen, in your garage or anywhere else in the house for things that are lying around and have not been in use for quite some length of time that you can hardly remember. Should you go on building that grow box right away? Wait just a minute. The first practical thing to do before committing any action is to plan.
Plan the space for your grow box. What would be a perfect spot? Remember that plants need light to thrive so they can transform water and other nutrients from the soil into food. Do you have a space near the window? That might be ideal. If not, you can place the box somewhere closer to the outlet or a source of energy for that lighting that you will install later on.
Now that you have found that right spot for your project, measure the size of the space so you can approximate the amount of materials you will need. The rule of thumb is building a bigger box than the number and size of plants you will initially place so there would be enough room for these plants to grow.
The next part is selecting your materials. The popular containers which require very little DIY (Do-It-Yourself) effort are computer or PC casings, cardboard boxes, big old plastic containers and cabinets. You will also need a light source. Light bulbs or LED lights can be used. You can also use reflective materials such as aluminum foil. You may consider installing a fan. The intricacy of the design is entirely up to you.
The fastest grow box to make would be that from a big old plastic tub like Rubbermaid’s. You only have to drill holes on the cover that make up a grid for the LED lights. Old computer casings are good since installing lights on them would be relatively easy. Cardboard boxes are quite handy when you need some reflectors. You can cover their surfaces with aluminum foil.
In Summary:
You already have the materials for that first grow box in your house. With some imagination and elbow grease, you wouldn’t have to spend a dime. Yet you have decided to buy one, then you should also learn how to buy a grow box too.
